Greater Los Angeles guide
Best Hairdresser in Los Angeles: Top 10
Choosing a hairdresser in Greater Los Angeles is less about finding a single “best” and more about finding the right fit for your hair, your schedule and how often you want to be in the chair. This guide lists ten options and focuses on the consultation: what to ask, how each hairdresser takes new clients, and what to settle before your first cut.
If you are starting from scratch, see our discovery guide to Los Angeles hairdressers for a format-by-format overview. This page is for narrowing down to one ongoing stylist.

Your first-consultation checklist
Bring this to your first appointment or call. It turns a vague conversation into a plan you can both follow.
- Photos, both ways. Show two or three looks you want and one you do not. Ask what would need to change about your hair to get there.
- Your honest routine. Say how many minutes you spend styling each morning and whether you heat-style. A cut that needs 20 minutes will not work if you have five.
- Maintenance rhythm. Ask how often this cut or color needs a visit (for example every six, eight or twelve weeks) and plan your budget around that, not the first visit alone.
- Growing-out plan. Ask how the shape will look at week eight, not just on day one.
- Color history. List box dye, lightening and treatments from the last two years. It changes what is possible in one visit.
- Price and timing in writing. Confirm what the quote includes, how long the appointment runs and the cancellation policy.
- How to reach them. Text, booking app or phone. An easy channel makes a long-term relationship work.
Signs a hairdresser is the right fit
They ask about your routine before touching your hair, explain what they will and will not do in one session, and are clear about upkeep. Whoever you choose, give a new stylist two or three appointments to learn your hair before judging the fit.
